Feedback and Revisions

When discussing as a class, I was told that in my project I have to adjust some of the font that is on the cover page becuase it is dificult to see it on a projected display screen. I wanted to make sure that all of my text was very clear and easy to understand. I also recieved feed back on a different part of my cover page, the class decided that I should adjust the layout of the coverpage. This was the most difficult part of the revision, because using publisher was a little tricky and it was difficult placing some of the feature articles in the right spot.
Other than that, my classmates loved my topic and they also think that my article includes a lot of information that keeps the reader interested. They were very intereseted in the photos that I took of the food. They thought that my images were going to set me apart from others. The pictures of the food were placed within the two page article. This made people very intereseted in reading.

Use of Conventions

How does your product use or challenge conventions of your genre?

- Within my project I use many different forms of conventions. Most of my research has been about the different types of heatlh magazines and what they have to offer. Some of my convetions are very similar to the other magazines that I have looked into, becuase I felt that if I wanted to make a similar magazine I should match some of their ideas.

How does it represent social groups or issues?

- My magazine has the ability to fit into different social groups around the United States. For example, a family would read the magazine in order to find out what the newest diets are and how to keep you rmind strong. A middle aged woman, would also be interested becuase it would give her the ability to keep up with the latesest trends and encourage her to workout, eat well, and soicialize.

    I decided to use 'Blossom Health' becuase I believe that it is very refreshing and it is a very colorful front page to attract a wide range of audience.

Magazine Production Posts (Schedule photo Shoot)

   It is ideal to make an agenda of all of the different photoshoots that will be completed. So far I have completed two different photoshoots for my coverpage and a portion of my two page spread. My coverpage has a photo of a dinner that I created to appeal to all of the sences.
  I have learned that it is important to appeal to all of the sences of the reader/viewer, becuase they are most important and you must be able to create and sell ideas that are outside of the box and something that they have never seen before.
   My photoshoots will also be very fun and a great play of lighting and staging of the food. I did not want to take generic pictures of food in bowls and in plates, I wanted to think outside of the box and bring somthing new to the table.. no pun intended.
    All of the photoshoots will represent the fresh and organic foods that are easy to prepare and useful in the kitchen for any family size. My plan is to take the pictures using many different angles and composition. Many of the simple food magazines often contain close-ups that are premeared on the cover page; however, I wanted to create a different appeal to the sences.

Magazine Production Posts (Scouting locations for photoshoots)

    Because I am designing a healthy magazine, it is important to include places that connect with my issue. Most of the photoshoots will be held in my kitchen, becuase I am preparing healthy meals.  Also at farmers markets becuase I will want to be active in the community for organic foods.
    Some of the photos that I have already taken were in my kitchen, laying out all of the different foods that I have purchased and layed them out in a very creative way.
    The presentation is also very important becuase it gives a good representation of the food presented, and the eyes eat first! The kitchen is a major location for the photoshoots becuase the magaznie also needs to represent a very welcoming apperance and very down to Earth with the audience.

Magazine Production Post (Schedule Interviews and Develop Questions)

    It is important to have information from a wide spread of information, therefore I will be conducting an interview with a produce seller at my nearest farmers market. I will be able to have information on the best types of produce and when the best time of the year it is to purchase specific produce.
   This will help guide any person who wants to become vegan, vegaterian, or a heathy individual. Some of the information that I will gain from the interview is the best time and place to purchase, the average prices, the best prices, how much money you should spend in a day, and the best times to go to the farmers market.
    It is important to have an understanding of the types of food and the amount to buy before you go to a farmers market, so you do not waste food or money.

Magazine Production Post (Flat Plan)

   Within the flat plan, I have included a wide variety of articles that all contain healthy routines for women and men. I needed to make sure that I had a balance of the type of article throughout my temp let, because I did not want it to be overwhelming for the readers. At the end of my flat plan I had an equal amount of ads as I did articles.
    One of the articles is about a 5 minute workout, explaining what is the best way to have a quick and healthy exercise at home or in the gym. I chose this because I felt that when I read health magazines I need to know simple workouts for the start of my day.
    Another article that I designed was for recipes for the morning. For my two page spread I have decided that I am going to have an article about organic food and the benefits of organizing and being rational to not waste any food. Also including a 5 minute smoothie or meal recipe that is great to eat any time of the day.

Magazine Production Post ( Table of Contents)

     It is important to be able to have the readers/viewers to have a very simple layout for the table of contents; therefore, I am going to make it an image of flowers. As noticed in my research most of the table of contents has continued with the same type of images from the photoshoot, to be able to connect the focus of the readers/viwers.

     I am listing a variety of articles within my table of contents. One of the things that I have learned from doing research, is that a large audience is tricky and inviting. I would like my magazine to be strictly health including a lot of different aspects of the body and mind. So it is important to spread all of the different articles in a manner that is not too overwhelming, and enjoyable to read. For example, If I placed an ad before and after a heavy read of a recipie, that way the audience has enough time to transistion onto the the next issue of work-out tips.

     It is important to keep the font very basic, yet very powerful. For example, a simple font like 'Times New Roman', but in a bold setting to make it stand away from the image below. A black font color is very strong and gives a lot of attention and creates a contrast from all of the other colors that are being presented.

      I researched many different health magazines, and I wanted to find soemthing that was very unique and inspiring for my potental readers; therefore, I decided to come up with the title ' Blossom Health'. This includes both the nature and the healthy side of a magazine.

The reason why I chose the word blossom is because I am creating a heath magazine that conect's with differnet aspects of nature, such as organic foods and natural ways to purchase foods. Not only is my magazine on food, it is on many different aspects of health, such as healthy mindset, workout routines, sleep, and many more. The audience of the magazine are mostly female, becuase statistics show that about 65% of women are reading these healthy magazines and 35% of men are as well.

      My coverpage has to be something unique, yet something that is very simple, so I decided to have my flowers be encourperated into my final project. Because my cover page is very dramatic, I wanted to connect with the readers by using the technique of symmetry, to be able to have an equal amount of font on the coverpage on each side. The use of different techniques in Publisher will allow me to set up my cover page in a way unlike others.

Although I have used my research to be able to create a similar outcome, I wanted to challenege myself and be able to stretch my abilities, by including new components.

(5) Magazine Project Genre Research (Gluten-Free Magazine)

Gluten-Free Magazine is a very popular magazine that helps guide readers to the best path for their diet. When you are gluten free it is very difficult to steer away from the regular foods, or find foods that are gluten free, so this magazine makes it afforadable and easy to be healthy. 

The cover of the magazine is very powerful, the background is a dark blue and the two different sized bowls make it very appealing to the eye. This image is a close up, becuase the photogropher wanted to focus on the food to be the focal point. Within the image there is also a tilt, this makes the reader/viewer have a better prespective on the meal as if they were holding in their hands.When you are pursuading people to eat a certain way or to take other things into consideration, the eyes see first and it is important that the audience is satisfied. The bright white font makes the magazine seem fresh and inviting. They also use large lettering to make the other important articles the focal point. 

The table of contents is found on the thrird page. Leading up to the table of contents are advertizements that are related to food and budgets. The use of the table, makes the readers be able to view the information in a very comfertable way. The use of the basic contrast allows for a clear understnading if when the title ends and something else begins. The use of the font is seen as something like a path that guides the eyes from one point to another. 

The articles are very interesting, including different recipies and locations to create meals. It is also helpful that the writers included a tip for budgeting and shopping for a gluten free meals. The articles were very similar throughout the pages and seemed to be inviting. 

(2) Magazine Project Genre Research (Womans Health)

Women’s Health Magazine is a magazine that focuses on health, fitness, lifestyle, and nutrition. 

The cover page has a view of the ocean in the background and the model, Allison Brie, is wearing black bathing suit bottoms and a black long sleeve sweater to set a contrast between the background and the model. The viewers are also focusing on the models body, so they decided her to wear a crop top to feature her apps. This shot is a mid-shot because Allison is shot from above her thighs and the background to be seen. The cover page also has a range of font sizes and colors that make the different words stand out along the rest. This strategy is found in most of the magazines today. 

The table of contents is found in the beinging of the magazine, listing all of the different types of important articles. All of the names of the articles are in a bold font to make them the first thing that the reader/viewer notices to know where to locate specific information they may be looking for. It is important to keep in mind that there is no need for a busy background because the table of contents is what really matters to the viewers/readers. 

The articles are a variety of meal plans, skin guidence, fashion, and work-out tips. The magazine can not be overwhelming -offering so many different topics- so the table of contents is very simple and the layout of the articles makes the reading very smooth and inviting. For example, the work-out tips are found every few pages, while on every page the healthy eating habbits are taken into consideration. The advertizements are found throughout the magazine as well, mostly concering with the fashion of the ideal workout outfit. 

(4) Magazine Project Genre Research (Sur la Table)

Sur La Table is a French cooking store in downtown Sarasota, Florida. Their monthy catalog offers high-end cooking utenciles and mouth watering platings of meals. 

Their December catelog has a cake detailed to perfection. This image was created using a closeup, allowing the cake to me the main focus, however still bringing the background into effect with the soft pastel colors. This magazine also uses Unique font for the heading with a slight curve in the title to create a very appealing effect.

The table of contents is located in the front of the magazine, and it includes differnt utenciles that one might use when they are decorating Christmas cookies. This still carries on the theme of the catelong onto the next page, and allows the reader to stay connected with the overal purpose of the magazine.

 The articles within the catelog are spread out within the pages, however they are displaying all of the different types of products for sale. The use of letters next to each image makes it very easy to find each product in an efficient way. The cover page is very simple, however the font of the title makes the image more appealing, and it is a very good technique to sell the food being advertised, esspecialy for meal planning.

(3) Magazine Project Genre Research (Shape Magazine)

Shape Magazine is a monthly fitness magazine started by Weider Publications in 1981. It soon became the number one women's fitness magazine. 

The front cover represents a young actress with blonde hair in a swim suit with a sweater on top. There is high contrast, exposure, and saturation, to make this cover page very appealing to the viewers/readers. The model, Emma, is in the form of a mid-shot, capturing her outfit, hand gestures, and a view of the the background. Her name is presented in a different bold front than the rest of the page, to allow her name to be visible to readers. The multi-colored font makes the coverpage very interactive and playful.

 Most of the advertisements appear on the first few pages and after the main issue. All of the ad's are correlated with the issue of fitness, health, beauty, and skin care. This allows the readers to have the ability to purchase an item that they beleive will help them improve their overall experience, if they are trying something new in the magazine. 

The table of contents appears on the tenth page, consisting of a close up shot including makeup and food. The table of contents also consists of bold and multicolored text to seperate the different previews. The designers decided to use the left over photoshoot to incourpurate into the table of contents. This allows the readers to continue their train of thought and to remember the image on the front cover, becuase the differnet colors are very rememberable.  

There is a large variety of articles within this magazine; including meal plans, fashion models, fitness tips, and much more. The basic workout tips and meal plans are found around every three pages and the fashion clothing represents the activewhere being modeled, these are found in the first ten pages, because they are a part of the main issue.
